Real Bugs

Ever wondered what it would be like if insects were to suddenly become forty times life-size? If you could watch a baby greenfly being born? Could talk to a ladybird? Or found yourself smaller than a jaw-snapping ground beetle?! Well, "Real Bugs" may be the closest you can safely get to finding out. (The insect world is a dangerous place!!)

Meet the stars of the show ~ Dip the blowfly, Lasius the ant and gentle Oniscus, the woodlouse, and follow their adventures through the fascinating and often cut-throat world of mini-beasts. See how they survive the challenging environment in which they live and interact with the other creatures who share it.

By what quirk of nature can greenfly breed so fast? Why do blowflies vomit over their food? And what is honeydew if it is nothing to do with bees? This entertaining, thought-provoking show has an environmental message encompassing the themes of biodiversity and food chains within the insect world.

Three-dimensional puppets interact with audience and actors whilst back-projected shadow effects combine to tell the tale with theatre magic and humour.

"'Real Bugs' was a magnet ... from the first beetle to the last ant. Even the most complex of concepts were reduced to a fun-filled package that kept the audience enthralled, entertained and, of course, educated." Kelvin Boot, the National Marine Aquarium.
